To my childhood friend, classmate and fellow electronics geek, Mike Fernez. I believe he’s 48 today, having been born late in the year prior to the one most of our class was born in.

He’s been more on my mind recently than might be the case, as I see his sister at work each day. It was freaky, as Deb calls it when I invoke people by thinking of them. The week before I started the job, I thought of her, completely out of the blue, vividly recalling what I believe is the last time I saw her. That was in 1978 or probably 1979. I had absolutely no reason to so much as remember she existed, let alone have that vivid flashback. Then there she was the next week, recognizing who I must be as soon as she heard my first name.

My late uncle’s wife, aunt Jean, would have been 73 today. I’d forgotten it was her birthday when I saw two of her grandkids today at a family thing. I last saw them when they were little more than babies, and they are in their twenties now.

We considered the same name for Valerie. Did you know the origin of the name Wendy is in Peter Pan? It didn’t exist before the author coined it, then became popular.
