Yum

To optimize time while I worked on CotC, and since we have eaten chicken for supper now for days, today I made my famous barbecue shredded beef in the crockpot.  Apart from getting it started, most of the work while I finished the carnival consisted of enjoying the smell coming from the crockpot.  I varied it this time by putting in real garlic and onion up front, with the water, vinegar and brown sugar.  Also used red pepper flakes and celery flakes up front.

Sadie couldn’t get enough of the meat as it was after shredding, and Valerie enjoyed it too.  Sadie kept reaching up for handfuls from the plate on the counter.  I’d hand her a bite and find her mouth was already full.

When the potatoes were done, Deb gave them each a spoonful of that to try, which also went over well.  Not always the case with mashed potatoes.

Well, Sadie wiped her plate of a not insignificant amount of food, except she left some corn.  Then she had two additional big helpings of beef.  Valerie wiped out her plate, got a second helping of corn, and then finished off again as much corn Sadie had left behind.

Then they asked for ice cream.

I guess it’s a hit.  It was awfully good.  The dry mustard came through more heavily than usual, but it was a worthy variant.  I noted that I am almost out of dry mustard, despite seldom using it.  When I do, it’s in large amounts, like the almost a tablespoon tonight.

The kids haven’t been getting nearly the bloggage they could have been lately.  Valerie is all but potty trained, for instance.  The “all but” lies primarily in having yet successfully pooped in the potty.  Sadie, conversely, cheers on Valerie and has lost what burst of enthusiasm she had on receiving her new blue potty.  Valerie refused to use her new potty, for the most part, because she was already on the way to self-training on the big toilet.  Trouble is, she’s too young to have free reign of the bathroom, and it would be vastly easier for us if she would use the little potty.

It’s been interesting.
