Weekend Agenda
In the absence of a traditional job, I like to treat it as if I have a fluid seven day work week, with work able to happen at odd hours on any day, and down time or non-work, including weekend-like interludes, able to happen at any given time. The less I get done during the week, the more I tend to think the weekend will bring me up to having had a satisfyingly productive week. Of course, the way we’re going, side work is going to occupy weekends or off hours even in the face of a traditional job schedule. If I’d worked on some of what I’m pursuing now starting a couple years ago, things would not be dire.
What I’d really like to do this weekend is clean the office, and some of that may happen.
What I am obligated to do this weekend is work on the next edition of CotC, which will be something between a traditional edition that announces changes and an edition that reflects the changes. I’ve bought myself the need to spend more time on it each week, regardless of guest editors, if the guest editor thing flies in some form, but with the potential for actual revenue or to build something of value that might attract a buyer down the road.
So. Hours of work on CotC this weekend and perhaps into Monday.
I need to send a couple e-mails in connection with CotC.
I’ve given up on any further changes to the design of the Bizosphere/CotC site before this next edition. That will be mandatory during the upcoming week. I’ve had an offer of some help, but would rather see how a push in the new direction with the improved design I already had planned seems to fly before getting too carried away.
There are some relatively quick and easy things I need to do across the empire. I need to update the original static CotC home page, which is something of a portal of links to our sites as well as the new CotC, both for the sake of updating and in an effort to make it stop showing up so high in search results. Funny problem to have. Also need to update the static elhide.com main page, possibly a couple others, and possibly make an html version of my blogging resume. (How could html not be in the default Firefox dictionary? Or if it’s in there as HTML, how could it not know to suggest the caps version?) Then there are some blogroll (Firefox spell checker seems to hate any compound word, even ones that should be in the dictionary) updates and an announcement to post. I may do new posts at my old sites with an updated “where are they now.”
If I get a good chance, I need to read thoroughly the material attached to an invitation to join a new Forbes ad network. I had thought it was directed explicitly at Blogblivion, since it followed by about a day a visit via LinkedIn from someone at Forbes.com. Turns out, though, it was addressed to an obsolete e-mail account associated with Accidental Verbosity. Which made me wonder if that was because my address wasn’t obvious enough here, or if it’s just that they took the same approach as Joe Random Link Advertiser and the visit was a coincidence. My e-mail of jay at this domain may not be posted here, but we do have a Contact link that goes to an e-mail address we both receive. They’d be logical for CotC, more than here, but I have a suspicion the revenue may be no better than typical link ads in the end. Still, I’m intrigued, even if I am bothered by it having been directed to an address at a retired blog. Not a priority this weekend, but needs to be done relatively soon, as there will be other options to consider as alternatives.
I have an announcement post I started that I might like to finish, though it could wait a couple more days to go up.
I want to put some more into at Welcome to Help by end of Monday, latest.
An e-mail, possibly in two parts, to employees of the old client for purposes of networking and trying to get some side work relative to the prior item, by Tuesday.
If it seems like I have time, need to chip away at the project to see if I can finalize collecting something from former clients. Got part of that done Thursday.
Finally, work on the technical resume if I have time, and if not, that becomes a priority after the weekend, as in “lock myself in until it’s done so I can post it” priority.
If I run out of things to do this weekend, otherwise soon after, there are some networking and utility sites I need to update. LinkedIn is set for now, but I am on Plaxo without having tweaked it, and I didn’t even start my profile once I accepted an invitation to a high end networking site oriented toward people like executives and business owners. It’s not your father’s job hunting environment, Toto. Need to setup voicemail on Grand Central, where I got the coolest number. I’ve been considering signing up with OnForce. It disturbs me that one of the terms is you can’t setup anything like their business within three years of the time you use their service, and their business is very much like something I started to fiddle with several years ago and haven’t necessarily given up on entirely. Anyway, things like that.
Some random posts and tweets in there, of course. I have a backlog, even if they’re quickies, and even if I take it easy as it’s the weekend and that’s the slow time for blogs. I have some pics of the kids partially ready to post, and will probably sneak that in.
Okay, off to it! I’ll have to be sure to consult this “list” if I become dazed about what I might ought to be doing.
