UPS for Success

Well that was fun.  At 3:55 the power went out.  Since all the UPS devices worked perfectly, it was a bit surreal.  Lights were out, but something was beeping and the computer was griping about being disconnected from the network.  Took a sec to realize what it meant.  I shut down the two computers immediately, and Deb shut down hers.  Amusingly, the halogen light had ended up plugged into battery on her UPS, so she had an even more surreal experience.

Power returned just before 5:30, just as I finished cutting potatoes.  Part of the time would have been spent peeling carrots and potatoes and cutting them up to cook to go with the chicken in the oven anyway, so it wasn’t as disruptive as it could have been.

The kids were funny.  Sadie kept asking for lights to be turned on, or trying to turn them on and failing, and got an explanation or two about electricity powering everything.  She also associates candles with birthday cakes and was intrigued with the big one I lit for a while.

When the power returned, she declared “the lights came back on by themself!  All of them!” She was so excited.

Speaking of the food, I need to pull out the chicken, cull off some of the drippings for gravy, baste one last time, throw it back in for another 15 minutes or so, and turn the heat on under the veggies.
