Speaking of Soup…

I got an early Christmas present yesterday!  I had the carcass from the chicken and was contemplating sticking it in a 5 quart pan to cook down for soup.  Deb stood here dancing as if she were afflicted with my prostate and a few mugs of coffee, then couldn’t stand it and offered me my big present, bought yesterday at a can’t-be-beat sale price, on the spot.

It’s an 8 quart stainless steel stockpot.  But wait, there’s more!

It has a clear cover with a steam vent.

It has a steamer basket.

It has a pasta insert!

I’d been pining for a larger pan in genral.  I’ve long wanted a second and perhaps larger steamer.  Pasta inserts weren’t even on my radar, but what a great concept.  All the more perfect if I am ever making double the pasta, to serve guests.

I joked about things being reversed, and that I should buy her tools.  Heh.

Anyway, I washed the factory off of it and immediately used it to start the soup.  Which I put away before adding veggies or noodles, after realizing we were out of peas and really wanting those in it, along with carrots and noodles (or barley, but I think noodles this time).  It was perfect for the job; almost bigger than it needed to be.

It’ll be good for pot roast.  The five quart pans proved to be barely large enough without making it heavy on the leftovers.

Yay for good equipment!
