Paging Carole King

Did anyone in the area (Middleboro, MA) feel an earthquake last night?

Assuming that’s what it was, it could have been mild enough for you to miss or mistake it, but we independently thought that’s what it was, and Deb would know better than I would.  Typically around here a quake large enough for anyone to feel isn’t noticed by everyone.

Normally I’d blame it on a train, but it was stronger and different, like a series of waves, then a smaller one a short time later, then nothing.  I happened to be sitting in my office chair with my feet up on a similar chair, which probably made it clearer.

There’s nothing online yet, so it was probably something else, but figured I’d ask.

  1. You got it all wrong. What you felt was a big yellow taxi going by.

  2. There’s nothing listed on the USGS recent quakes site.

  3. Hillsboro had an earthquake a few days ago. The local paper was amazed that no one reported feeling it.

I’m not surprised; it happened at 2:02 AM - everyone was asleep or at work. Those that work those type of hours are usually in manufacturing, so noise and vibrations are routine.
