On Another Birthday-like Note

Valerie is 22 months old today.  In two months she will be 2, which seems funny because we forget she’s not 2 or older already.  Unless she melts down incoherently and inconsolably as she did between 2:00 and 3:00 AM overnight.  That may have been gas, which is unexpected enough that we don’t suspect it the way we do when they are infants.  Of course, she’s always like a five year old brain in a two year old emotional state and body, so screaming fits and temporary loss of the ability to communicate aren’t that odd, any more than frustration with what she can’t yet do.

Meanwhile, Henry was 4 months old yesterday.  Time flies.  He was sympathy crying along with Valerie, who woke me up at some point while Deb was trying to console her.  I took over with Val.  Eventually she woke up Sadie, who came looking to lay down with me, but couldn’t.  She ended up laughing at her sister for being so utterly distraught.  Sadie has the maturity to be a trooper and lay down in my office by herself to go back to sleep, it being sufficient that the location is “safe,” even if I couldn’t stay with her.  It probably helped that she didn’t wake with terrors, but because of the racket from Valerie.

After Valerie let out a big belch and seemed to calm for just a moment, I gave her gas drops, on top of the pain medicine she’d already had.  Another belch and after that she started to zonk out.  Ended up back in her bed, with me on the floor and Nemo pillow beside her.  She barely budged again most of the night.  Eventually she spent some time sleeping on Nemo, then apparently got in bed with Deb and Henry.  I ended up in Sadie’s bed the last stretch of the night, which amused her when she came in after waking for the day.
