“Nothing”

I forget all the others she’s come out with, or that we have thought we’ve caught, but last night Sadie came out with the classic “nothing” in response to a question along the lines of “what are you doing?” and even managed something like the right tone.  Actually, tone is what she does best.  She generates a lot of amusement not by new words, but by the different ways she says “no,” “cool,” or “no way.”

This morning she used a perfect shrug on me, in precise context.  That was cute too.

Then there are the times she’s so sweet you could go into sugar shock.  The other night we put them to bed at the same time.  Usually Valerie is asleep first, no matter how little she’s inclined to remain that way.  Then we let Valerie cry herself to sleep, trying to get her to learn to sleep.  Sadie sang to her, trying to soothe her, and later we found Sadie had put stuffed animals in the crib with Val to try to make her feel better.  She’ll help wash her, and give her food… which isn’t always good; witness the choking hazard of things like whole grapes.  But still, she tries to take good care of her sister.

No idea where she learned the “nothing” response though!  Deb asked if I’d been letting her watch The Simpsons.
