New Camera

Today we did the obligatory dinner at my grandmother’s, where there was birthday cake for Valerie, who will be one Wednesday (and my blogging will be four years old in a week, next Sunday, so I’ll have to remember that when the time comes).  It was one of those crazy times when even though it had been but a few weeks since the last visit, the kids aged dramatically in that period.  Heck, Sadie has officially insisted on no more diapers, and is relatively serious about potty training.  Valerie has graduated out of the highchair and now has a regular chair at the table, where she is oddly neater, and the main problem is convincing her not to climb onto the table.  Oh, and Valerie’s latest new word today was “ketchup.” They’re definitely my kids.

Anyway, after that we continued our explosive decompression of grocery and sundry restocking.  In the morning Deb went to Wal-Mart and Hannaford.  After dinner we all went to BJ’s.  We checked out the camera display, not far from the entrance, were blown away, and after thinking on it while filling the cart, went back and went through with it.

We bought a Kodak EasyShare C533 5 megapixel camera for $99.99, and a 1 GB SD card for $29.99, which is amazing.  Bear in mind that the current card is 64 MB, only double the new camera’s internal memory.  Picture unloaded from the cameras in 2005 and 2006, and copies modified to go online, take a total of 16 GB of hard drive space.  The old SD card being available allows one of the old cameras to remain a viable spare.

I’ve only taken a few pictures, but you can see on the camera’s LCD how much sharper they look.  So far so good.  We’ve heard such good things about the Kodaks that it wasn’t just a matter of it being the lowest price camera there.

In the meantime, I have a mess of good pics I downloaded from the old camera before we left today, so some of those might get posted, and there are several more I took at my grandmother’s.  The kids were wearing some nice outfits they got for Christmas, for the first time, and we wanted some pictures before they trashed them with food.  Which they would up not really doing.  I can’t believe how good they are to take places.

When I get some pics off the new camera, I’ll post and make special note of them.
