“Motherboard!”

I was working on a computer today, while Valerie napped and Deb was signing consent forms with the OB.  That’s important, since if he arrives and we haven’t consented, we’ll have to send him back.  Thus it was natural for Sadie to hang out and “help” with what I was doing.

I pointed out all the parts and she repeated the names of most of them, sounding particularly cute saying “motherboard.” Then I showed her what plugged in where on the back, and that the power supply also had a fan, like the CPU and front of the case, and had a power switch separate from the one at the front.  She continued to repeat some things after me as I mentioned them.

It was cute.

And a fairly happy little while, since the machine actually worked.  Last time I’d tried to use it, wanting to migrate to it as a primary work machine at the office because it was so much newer and roomier, it seemed to be dead.  Then I borrowed parts out of it, so it got a video card from a dead machine today, and still needs a network card.  It had been sitting, waiting to be put back together and troubleshot.  The troubleshooting consisted of “hey cool, it works!” and remembering my password.

One pending project down.  Many more to go.  Including finding a way to put upwards of four computers at or adjacent to my desk.  Which reminds me I should have looked at KVM switches when I was ordering parts.  Oh well.

But back to Sadie.  When her mother came home, I got her to say “motherboard,” which amused Deb no end.  Sadie will be fixing computers before we know it.
