I Love the Interwebs

Once upon a time, I would have said “I need the Zip Code for Canton.” I would have then located a phone book that might have it as one of the listed towns, or I might have even maintained my own handy list if I thought I would need to look regularly.  No wonder I memorized a large number of the ones in the 023 postal region, helped by my mother having been a rural carrier and sometimes tricks like “Whitman and Hanson are a school district, and Hanson is half of Whitman; 82 and 41.” That and they are alphabetical, except for the first one or two that are for the primary town in the region, like 02301 for Brockton and 01301 for Greenfield.

Anyway, I just needed Canton, so with barely a pause, I fired up Firefox and typed:
canton massachusetts zip code

The first item, displayed right in the results, held the answer: 02021.  I’m surprised I forgot that, but it’s been a while.

I love the internet.
