I Did The Impossible

I lined up an appointment this morning with my doctor for later today.  The same day!  Heck, the same week.

It’s not going anywhere, and I can’t go all winter coughing and gagging, and unable to take deep breaths or have the slightest hint of acid or be exposed to the slightest smoke or scents lest I set it off.  A certain regimen of Sudafed, OTC pain relievers, extra ranitidine and extra Maalox Max (which is now named something less memorable, so they have to tag the packages saying that it was formerly Max so people know what it is… silly) can keep it under a fair degree of control, but my sleep, not that it’s ever ideal in the first place, is really suffering.

Even better, I got the receptionist who didn’t even need to ask my name.  I’m used to that from my favorite sub shop, but it’s a treat from the doctor’s office.

I’m assuming it’ll be a matter of antibiotics.  It’s been several years, oddly enough, but at one point it was nearly a regular thing for me to get a cold or whatever, then have to go to a doctor because it turned into a respiratory infection, which would promptly go away on antibiotics.  If anything, this doesn’t feel as bad as those did.  Intriguingly, those were all prior to having the tooth pulled that had been harboring an infection in the root for several years.  After that, I stopped having sinus problems as chronic or severe, and stopped getting infections from what should have been quick-recovery winter viruses.

In December I broke a tooth.  At the time, it struck me that it might have been infected.  While the tooth turned out to be ignorable (at least until it recently broke a little more), I could swear I’ve felt low-level sick ever since.  Well, until I went to Christmas at a plague-ridden house and got truly sick.  Yay.  We may have a policy from now on of skipping stuff like that - even on Christmas - if we know people there are particularly sick.  I can’t help wondering if it’s a coincidence.  I may just have to see a dentist, and keep seeing one as needed, to control the apparent infection reservoir that is my teeth.

Oh well.  At least I got an appointment the same day!

  1. Congratulations! I am so glad you got the appointment as I really did not think you sounded all that well Friday!Plus it was not that hot in this house that it should have been causing you a problem. Infected teeth can cause other health problems yet that cough doesn’t sound like it would be coming from that. Hope they give you something that really works.
