I Can’t Wait…

Until Christmas is over.  Ugh.  In fact, everything from the Thanksgiving anticipatory period through the end of the year feels like a giant disruptive obstacle to get past.

Oh well.

On today’s agenda, I have to shower and get to Hannaford this morning to counter the pending sugar outage and get a few things besides.  I’d have gotten sugar at BJ’s the other day, but looking at sugar and flour there made me come home and regale Deb with how you have to watch out for BJ’s.  For ten pounds of name brand flour at BJ’s I can get fifteen pounds of store brand, perfectly good flour at Wal-Mart.  Is it a good price for a name brand?  Presumably.  Is it a good price in absolute terms?  No.  Ditto the sugar.  In order to get a normal Wal-Mart price per 5 lbs on name brand sugar at BJ’s, you’d have to buy the 25 lb bag.  Recently sugar was on sale at Wal-Mart low enough to get 30 lbs for just slightly more than the 25.  BJ’s doesn’t carry any but the name brand in sugar and flour.  I noticed they aren’t even as low any more on eggs as they were, or as I thought they were, but they remain superior.  It’s just a closer thing now.

I also need to hit CVS for a prescription.  Trying a new blood pressure med to help avoid gout turns out to be $130-something for 90 days, versus under $10.

I also need to find my stamps and mail some late additional cards.

Then I need to drive up to East Bridgewater to swap the truck for my brother’s van, so we can go to Christmas dinner tomorrow.

Then I need to grab the girls and take them out of the house for as long as possible.  Not sure where.  I have a notion to take them to my grandmother’s and introduce them to sledding… if there is something available to slide on.  This will allow Deb to wrap stuff for them, and to finish the remaining gift she is making, which needs to be ready for de facto Christmas tomorrow.  The kids have been brutal about her - either of us, really - getting things done.  If the baby stays mellow, getting the girls away from the house should make a difference.  Yesterday I suggested sending them to military school.

Then I need to burn a CD for my brother.  I’d like to continue the scanning project, including rescanning pictures of Deb as a kid, looking remarkably like Valerie.  They weren’t at good enough resolution.  Now I have a better handle on how the scanner operates and can get clearer results to be able to post.

Oh, somewhere in there are meals.  There is enough turkey for a dozen sandwiches, probably, or a number of meals with sides.  Yesterday it was sandwiches for lunch, then fried mashed potato and cheese served with scrambled eggs for supper.  I need to start a pot of soup.  That can take some of the leftover turkey, as well as what’s on the carcass.  Some of the turkey and/or soup can go in the freezer, since we’re running up against too much food in too short a timeframe.  I was even thinking to take soup with me tomorrow and offer it to people to take home.

Then I need to make cranberry pie and/or pumpkin bread and/or some other item to take tomorrow, even if there are no specific requests.

Tomorrow is pretty much devoted to going to my sister’s, where we will see every sibling who lives in the state (three), my mother, my grandmother, a couple uncles, possibly an aunt, between seven and ten of my nieces and nephews, and probably my father and stepmother too.  Monday might not be so bad, depending if I end up needing to hit a bank or store for any reason.  Tuesday will be much more relaxed than if we weren’t doing the thing Sunday, though I expect to cook a big dinner.  After Tuesday I have to ramp up to everything changing, and absolutely take the time and effort and focus to obtain and, you know, do work for money.
