Hit Suppers

I managed hit suppers two nights in a row, which doesn’t always happen where the kids are concerned.

Night before last it was the barbecue shredded beef and mashed potatoes, which was also lunch yesterday and went over nearly as well.  The kids just don’t clean their plates, and they certainly don’t ask for more.

Last night it was “let’s use this stuff before it expires” supper of pancakes and scrambled eggs with ham and cheese.  The kids each devoured three pancakes and easily an egg’s worth of scrambled eggs.  The third pancake was seconds.  Valerie was so into the eggs that she ate what Sadie didn’t, in lieu of seconds of that.  Between them they left a fraction of a pancake and a few small chunks of egg.

I guess we need to have pancakes more often.  They’re getting spoiled, though; we have an especially good batch of real maple syrup on hand currently.  It might be interesting if we ever have to switch to fake syrup.

Tonight?  No idea yet.  Perhaps chicken in some form.  Tomorrow night we’re scheduled to have dinner at a friend’s house; probably homemade Chinese food.  Sadie should appreciate that.  There was a Christopher Columbus cartoon on yesterday and I joked about the alternate history in which he arrived in the new world and found it populated with Chinese people.  That started her on “Chinese food!  Chinese food!”

Okay, gotta see what’s wrong with Valerie, then do dishes.  Deb and Henry are at the doctor and then the store.
