Hey Hey She’s a Monkey
This morning, not long ago, I was making my coffee. I’d just heard Valerie squealing to herself. Then she comes toddling happily out of her room and into the kitchen.
Valerie.
The one who sleeps in the crib.
The crib that only has one notch to go to be on its lowest setting.
The Valerie who will be 14 months old on the 21st.
Happy as can be, perfectly safe.
Oh man.
It gets better. She clearly planned it. She dropped her blankets and stuffed animals all into a soft pile on the floor alongside the crib before trying to climb out, so she’d have something to drop onto.
We are so in trouble. It was bad enough she happily climbs in or out of the tub herself if she’s impatient. Sadie still requires a lift in and out. The other day, Valerie came out of the shower (we have them shower so they don’t get water all the way to the far end of the office or small bedroom sized bathroom), got on her dinosaur pajamas (the ones that used to be Sadie’s, that Sadie selected herself in the store, that Valerie loves just as much), and before we could stop her she got back to the bathroom and into the tub she’d been so eager to leave a couple minutes before. Deb got pictures.
Today the crib mattress gets dropped that final notch. I hope that lasts long enough for her to learn to sleep in a regular bed and be trusted to wander the house…
