Here’s How It Went
I saw the doctor as mentioned. The appointment was for 3:00, and it was somewhere near 3:50 when I was ushered in, then a lot of waiting in the exam room. That didn’t bother me, given the fact that I was benefitting from an emergency appointment.
He ended up giving me prescriptions for amoxycillin, which I expected, and for Flonase (fluticasone propionate) spray and Allegra (fexofenadine hcl), which I did not expect.
Good thing for generics, considering the respective prices of $9.23, $68.13!, and $30.39.
The cool thing at the appointment was my encouter with a nurse-wielded electronic device that declared me congested simply from a few seconds clipped to my left middle finger.
After that, during the next long break, I Googled on the Blackberry because I couldn’t fathom how such a thing would work and was curious. Okay, I didn’t Google, because Google refused to come up after a long delay. I Yahooed instead, and was impressed with the degree of usefulness and detail displayed with the results, and the way the number per page (3) and format was tailored to the Blackberry. Kudos!
That told me that the device checks blood oxygen levels. Congestion reduces blood oxygen, which is logical and would explain a lot.
Based on past experience, amoxycillin alone ought to blow it away without much fuss or delay. Apparently he though the rest was necessary given what he saw.
Yay for getting better soon!
yay for good drugs!

You should probably get tested because it is possible to become more sensitized over time to something in your environment. Plus, I can tell you from experience that allergies will make a cold longer and more intense.
Get well soon!

Usually I see the Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. It saves a BUTTLOAD of time.
The last time I made a 11:00am appointment to see my nephrologist, I didn’t see him til 1:00pm.
