Happy Birthday

To my nephew James, who is 13 today.  The grow up so fast!

I could always remember his birthday without writing it down because it was the same as a girl I knew in college named Sharon McGrath.  If I have it right, she’d be 42 today.  Damn, time flies.  I have a nephew and niece at Bridgewater State now, and each of them would like for their younger siblings not to go to the same college overlapping them.  That has also reminded me of Sharon recently, because she was the second sister there.  Her sister Deidre, called Dee Dee, was in my class, a year ahead.  The parents made Sharon go to Bridgewater too, so they’d only have the one place to go from Andover to drop off, pick up, or visit both kids.  In the case of my nephews and nieces, what’s logical for one - commuting distances minutes away - is logical for the other.  Nor is there anything about the offerings that wouldn’t make Bridgewater acceptable or even preferable to the siblings.  Dee Dee was in German classes with me, and one of my business law classes.  I met Sharon through her initially, then we were in Pascal together.  Which was called Computer Science 101 and is now Java.  She was retaking it and was attempting to ce a computer science major before switching to management.  I was taking it because I needed two such classes and BASIC had been too easy, having been extensively self-taught.  I always think of Dee Dee because of Sadie’s doll she named Dee Dee.  She was a management major all along, and was good friends with a girl named Heidi Mendonca, also from my German classes.
