Conundrum

(It’s kind of hard to post things when the blog won’t stay up!)

We’re supposed to participate in a multi-family yard sale Saturday, which seems like a great idea.  I figured we had a ton of stuff to get rid of, and certainly the cash would be handy.

Now we’re down to two days.

All we have is a stack of books that might fetch a few bucks.

Deb has become very pregnant at last, so several hours in the sun seems daunting.  Especially when it’s Harry Potter Day.

I’m trying to work on my web site and such, which is a remarkably slow process even when well focused.  I’m at a point in that of setting myself up to be able to run WordPress locally on my computer, and then creating my own theme.  That will also be useful in the fixing that is needed to MGC and CotC.

Trouble is, I need to do errands.  While I’d need to go to the bank anyway, for the yard sale I’ll need to get a selection of small bills to use for change (coins we have).  I need to go to the office and get a table or two.  While there, I would need to do some extensive spelunking in case anything can go in the yard sale.  All I can really think of is some duplicate copies of obsolete computer books and maybe a couple pieces of small furniture.

Then I would need to go through stuff here, which itself might be the task of a couple days.  At least.  We have less obvious stuff to get rid of than we might have thought, but what there is would be mainly mine.  To the extent there’s stuff for Deb to go through, and for part of what I’d need to look at, the kids would have to be elsewhere or in bed.  Which brings up the thing nobody tells you; when you have kids, you will have absolutely no energy or interest left for doing anything after you get them in bed and breathe a massive sigh of relief.  Maybe part of that is our kids and their sheer vigor.

During all of which I would be not working on business.

Which might not be so bad, except I had this crazy guerilla marketing idea to put business cards on the yard sale table for people to grab and perhaps ask me about.  I hate to hand out the cards much without a complete if preliminary site, the one defers so heavily to the other.

And even I was wondering if I really wanted to sit out in the sun for several hours.  Even if I dig up more stuff, we might be talking twenty bucks or so in sales.  I’d been chalking it up as mainly a social event.

To top it off, besides being Harry Potter Day (Saturday = Potterday?) (Except when it’s Hot Fudge Sundae, which falls on a Saturdae this week?), it’s the day my $300 box of computer parts is due to arrive.  At least it’s not UPS, so they won’t require a signature even though no signature is required.  But it’s my parts!  Sitting.  Waiting for me.  Probably safe, but sitting on the wrong side of my door.

So we’re trying to decide what to do, leaning toward rudely backing out of the yard sale.  First things first, though, getting to the bank and the store and making sure Valerie doesn’t run out of diapers.  I should buy two cases of them, since she’ll probably remain in size 3 until she potty trains.  She’s as interested in doing so as Sadie, and more uncomfortable in a used diaper than Sadie has ever been.  We’re going to buy her a potty of her own, well, it’s on the current shopping list.  Worst case, it inspires Sadie and makes her life easier by redirecting Valerie’s interest in Sadie’s potty.

  1. If you can’t make the yard sale, then you can’t make it. I was going to go through my comic book collection with an issue of Wizard magazine and price them according to back issue value listed in said magazine, and didn’t get to it. I was also going to look into crap in the garage that I might want to part with. To top it off, I also have to run to Plympton to help Adam and Warren move the last amount of stuff from the old house to the new. That should entail only a couple of hours. I’m also sure that considering Deb’s condition and the weather the way it is, no one will be offended. I might cry a little, but that’s all.

  2. For Potter, I’d totally be rude and back out. But then, I’m a total Potter FREAK.
