Change Bad

Sadie and Valerie have been sharing a computer desk of ordinary size for two computers, with two full size secretary chairs, and it’s been… interesting.  Not helped by Val’s being left handed, so the mice occupy the same spot between the keyboards.  Val also has trouble with the chair, as far as being unable to get it comfortable close.

We moved the crib to our bedroom so His Sleeplessness could more easily get used to the concept, leaving a precious space in their room.  So we decided Valerie would get the large coffee table in their room, with her computer having plenty of space and their being desk surface for other activities on each.  Sadie would get Her Own Big Desk to herself.  Go Sadie.  Valerie could use the little chair, of which they each have one made for that size table, and be more comfortable.  Perfect.  And they could share the desks, still; both big chairs remaining at Sadie’s and both little chairs at Valerie’s.

I moved in the table, got Val’s computer preliminarily onto it, sans power yet, and was pleased that it worked perfectly for left-hand mousing.

Then things got interesting.

Sadie insists her computer must move there too.

Now, there is actually more room on the table than the desk, and it could work neatly that way if I put one or both cases on the floor.  However, it really messes with our plans.  Especially since Sadie isn’t thrilled with the idea of Deb taking over Sadie’s desk, moving it to the living room.  Which, incidentally, was the original idea; moving Sadie’s desk and computer to the living room.  She wanted it that way, last I knew, but changed her mind, and we mainly wanted them apart, not requiring separate rooms.  They fight fiercely while trying to use each other’s machines in addition to their own.

Sigh…

I need to go back to it and see where things stand.  It was sounding like we’d go with the Sadie plan, except she hated the idea of my putting her sitting at the end of the table so they wouldn’t be side-by-side and the two would fit better.  And the chair wouldn’t be in the way of the door so much.  Deb was promoting the idea of moving her computing location to the spot most logical for that desk in the living room, putting the spare living room chair in her current spot and putting her desk in Sadie and Val’s room, even if nobody uses it.

Sadie just hates change, and we run into trouble every time we forget that.  Just because we think it’s weird for her not to want her own desk means nothing to her.

Perhaps I can make the new arrangement work better if I move their beds around…
