Aw Jeez! (Updated*2: All is Well)

Just talked to Deb.  They’re sending her to the hospital.

Basically the monitoring showed the twerp’s heart rate doing funny things, or something.* By going to the hospital, she’ll get more and better monitoring, a trip through the good ultrasound if needed, and they’ll be sure all is well.  Whereas the trip for monitoring at the hospital with Sadie was basically a guaranteed “there will be a baby in the next day or two” trip, this is more likely to result in sending her home.

If not, well, my mother, sister, father or someone can go pick up the van so I can drive the kids as needed.  Yeesh.

I’m glad the gout is better today!  That may become important.  In addition to this effectively canceling Deb’s midwife appointment scheduled after the NST, and her planned trip to check out the A.C. Moore store an exit up in Brockton afterward, she was also going to stop and pickup checks for me from the former big client.

Here’s hoping the extra monitoring at the hospital goes well.

* Apparently what this means is that when provoked into moving, his heart rate went down rather than up, Deb explained when she called again on her way to the car.

Update at 2:00 PM:

Just wanted to note that there has been no further word since I spoke with Deb just after 11:00.  I see my time stamps on posts are an hour off, which is always helpful for posterity.  I’ll have to see what I can do.

The kids are being good.  More or less.  I made them an early lunch of pancakes.  They ate three each, bathed, then devoured two tasty red plums between them.  Except the bits that I ate.  I didn’t even think to turn on the TV for them until after noon.  It seemed like Valerie was going down for her nap moments ago, but she got distracted by Casper playing on DVD.  Meanwhile, FedEx just dropped off my parts, so in theory I should be setting up the new computer while Val naps and Sadie is torn between helping me and watching cartoons.

Update at 2:30 PM:

Deb called and has been sprung.  Everything was fine.  She did get an extra ultrasound and apparently some cool pictures out of the deal.  She’s going to skip the craft store, but get a machine snack, go pick up the checks, and head home.  Then we will all pile in the car, go to the bank to optimize how quickly the checks are useful, and go to the store.  So in about an hour I need to have the kids dressed, and it’s just as well Valerie is reticent about napping when it’s 91 degrees.

I’m curious to see which of the six outstanding invoices the checks from the former big client represent.  I don’t really expect to see the really big one that is more than half the remaining balance and was due May 19, but that would be fantastic.
