Artistry
One thing they don’t tell you about having kids is that you need to be able to draw. Where’s Uncle David when we need him?
Usually Deb gets recruited to draw pictures for Sadie, who art directs. She’ll point and say “mommy” then “sadierose” then “vallyruth” and then “daddy” or whatever. Or she’ll ask for a tree or flower, or you just draw something if it’s unclear.
I got to do that this morning. I always admire how well Deb draws, protestations notwithstanding. This was turnabout; she really liked my people, which are the least of what I am able to draw. Sadie was amused and excited with them too.
We should save some of this stuff and scan it in for posterity. Sadie’s stuff too, of course. At least, the drawings that go on paper, and not works like “trees on a mirror.” I have an antique-ish tall mirror in a frame, leaning against the wall near my desk. You’ve seen it in pictures, where I managed to get cool pics of the kids and their reflections. Speaking of which, I taught them to say “hi doppelganger!” to themselves in the mirror after their baths, which is sooo cute. The mirror is currently covered with trees in green crayon, plus some blue accents by Valerie. Doh.
