Another Candidate Comparison Quiz
Via Dean, here is another select a candidate tool. What’s intriguing is that McCain and Giuliani again are at the top, while Kucinich is again at the bottom. In between, they seem more tightly clustered. Numerically they are:
John McCain 48
Rudy Giuliani 39
Joe Biden! 38
Jim Gilmore 31 (Who?)
Mitt Romney 30
Fred Thompson 29
Duncan Hunter 29
Ron Paul 28
Sam Brownback 26
Tom Tancredo 26
Barack Obama 23
Hillary Clinton 23
Bill Richardson 23
Mike Huckabee 22
Mike Gravel 20
Chris Dodd 20
John Edwards 18
Dennis Kucinich 15
Even as well phrased as the options are overall, there are still weaknesses to the quiz. It’s almost enough to make me want to do my own.
For instance, my two lists for McCain are:
Agree
Immigration
Taxes
Health Care
Social Security
Line-Item Veto
Energy
Marriage
Death Penalty
Disagree
Iraq
Stem-Cell Research
Abortion
My two lists for Romney are:
Agree
Taxes
Stem-Cell Research
Health Care
Abortion
Line-Item Veto
Death Penalty
Disagree
Iraq
Immigration
Social Security
Energy
Marriage
The trouble is, I decided to click yes on expanded federal funding of stem cell research, with low weight, as an expression of support for stem cell research generally. In reality, there should not now nor ever have been or be in the future federal spending on stem cell research. But the feds shouldn’t prevent or hinder it either, and since our society as it exists does indeed use federal funding for such things, that funding should be no more restricted than private. Saying no on that puts me in religious right whacko territory, except my reasoning would be other. Thus I would rather be identified in the yes column, but not with the also whacko federally fund (and control!) every kind of research (and everything!) crowd.
I came out agreeing with Romney on health care, because I said no to nationalized health care. The trouble is, Romney wants something worse; something that is the first government imposition in my life that has made me seriously consider leaving Massachusetts, it’s that evil.
These tests are entertaining, even informative, but let it never be said they aren’t relatively simplistic. And now, really, I need to get out of here…
I keep getting Giuliani on these stupid things, and we all know how I feel about *him*.
*sigh*
