A Rant
I don’t care who the hell you are; an actress, an executive, an ordinary blogger, a professional blogger who really should know better, or for God’s sake a tech blogger…
It’s a fricking POST.
Or an ENTRY.
A single item written and posted to your BLOG is not a ”blog” people! Not. A. Blog.
It’s a damn post or entry. It might even be an article and get away with it.
In fact, if you can wrap your head around such an abstract concept, the article/magazine analogy might help you become literate and stop being an embarrassment to the language and the intertubes.
You write an article. It is published in a magazine.
You write a post. It is published in a blog.
Ooooh… that is so tough to wrap your mind around, isn’t it? I know it’s hard, but with a little stretching, surely you can do it.
So please, while you fight the future or tech blog or whatever, try to keep your terminology that of someone who started reading or writing blogs more recently than, say, yesterday.
You are not legitimately able to use the phrase “in a previous blog” unless, like me, you had a previous weblog. And hey, there’s the ticket! You know how you keep from using “it’s” incorrectly by reading any occurence of “it’s” as “it is” and making sure it doesn’t sound stupid? Exactly! Just use the word “weblog” anywhere you’ve typed “blog” and if it’s wrong you’ll be able to avoid making a total ass of yourself.
That is all.
Thanks a million! This is the post I’ve been tumbling around in my brain since a local radio personality made the exact same mistake, repeatedly, on his show this last Sunday. Durrrrrrrrrrrrrr! That set my teeth on edge.

The post is published ON a blog, not IN a blog.
(God, I feel like such a dick, but it seemed justifiable just this once.)

Posted by Ithildin on 05/03 at 12:32 AM fromIn a roughly Seussian summary:
I will rant from here to there,
I will NOT blog in the net anywhere! It is NOT blog it in a post,
It is POST it ON a BLOG,
as I have quoted in entries elsewhere!Posted by on 05/03 at 08:53 AM from<standing ovation>
Posted by McGehee on 05/04 at 01:40 PM fromWhen short on synonyms, I’ve also used “essay”, “missive”, “piece”, “editorial”, and “steaming pile of wretched verbosity”
But you’re right - using “blog” as you’ve described is just wrong.
