Jay: Kids and Kid Accessories
Here are some more mostly Christmas pictures of the girls. Henry being photogeneric last night should follow at some point.
Valerie with her pony and then, I believe on another day, looking all intense. More than usual.
Such a wonderful Toy.
“Hey, let’s experiment on your Slinky and see if we can destroy it completely before Christmas is over. We’ll hold mine in reserve and destroy it before the year is over. C’mon, it’ll be fun!”
And so they did.

Jay: Scroll
I just published a series of eight posts with or related to Christmas pictures of the kids. Don’t assume the first one or two are it. That’s a big chunk of the current from page.
Jay: You Gotta Have Art Supplies
Sadie’s equivalent of the Play-Doh was an art kit, including water colors, which she was excited about. It also has crayons, oil crayons that are the generic of Cray-Pas, colored pencils, markers, glue, a sharpener, and probably something I’m forgetting. She was ecstatic. The second picture here gives some idea of her reaction. The pairing of the Play-Doh and art stuff was perfect. While Sadie used her paint and tried out the markers, Valerie was completely occupied by the Play-Doh.
Besides the kit, they each got crayons, chalk, pencils, pens, and stickers. Sadie got erasable colored pencils. That stuff has been the main thing they’ve used since Christmas, as the kitchen floor can attest.
Jay: Not to Be Confused With Real Doh?
Valerie got a major gift of a nice Play-Doh set, recognizing her being able to play with it without eating it, now. She was thrilled. Sadie thought it was pretty cool too. It’s an excellent set, better in some ways than the ones Sadie has had over time.
Jay: My Little Valerie
Valerie got a My Little Pony this year, as she’s been fond of the one Sadie owns. I also observed that when I took her through the entire toy department* in Wal-Mart recently, those were about the only thing she reacted to with interest. She showed slight interest in the toy musical instruments, and lots of interest in a super soft stuffed dog.
Now they have three between them, since their cousin Alicia gave a hand-me-down one to the two of them, which was awesome.
Sure enough, she was delighted with it. Sadie thought it was cool too.
* Or most of the toy department, as I believe I skipped a half-aisle or two being occupied by what we call “only person in the store” shoppers.
Jay: The Mutant Peeps of Winter
Sadie reacts to getting a package of snowman peeps in her stocking. Valerie got trees. Those were a huge hit.
Jay: Sadie’s Snow Gear
Sadie has also been wearing some of this stuff to bed. She actually got two pairs of mittens, the other being from her grandmother, and two hats, the other of which looks almost as if it might have been intended for the baby, and which has an almost bonnet-like shape. Sadie immediately turned that one into a purse, but seems to have decided she prefers the other mittens. In any event, having two good pairs is a bonus, and Valerie gets Sadie’s old ones as her spare pair (they each got scarf, hat and mittens, but I haven’t prepped any pictures of Valerie with hers to include among this set of posts)..
Jay: Heroes
They both got superhero capes. Valerie opened hers first; red with a V on it. Sadie was intrigued and like “hey, what about me,” so Deb made sure the package with hers was the next thing she opened. Sadie’s is blue with SR on it, in keeping with her self-identification more as Sadie Rose than as just plain Sadie. Last night was the first since Christmas that Sadie didn’t sleep wearing her cape.
Jay: Piano Girls
Sunday, before Christmas, the girls at the piano at my sister’s house.
Jay: Loot
Here’s a picture of the loot and tiny little tree before the girls had a chance to get up and into it.

Jay: She DID Contribute
These are scanned pictures we got from Deb’s grandmother, of Deb the Climber when she was little, looking and acting nothing at all like Valerie…

Jay: The Girls
Also pre-Christmas, this is an especially striking picture of Sadie and Valerie together.
Jay: The Valrog
Coming to you from the infamous Mines of More Hairier, it’s the dreaded Valrog…
I know, these aren’t Christmas pictures. They’re some I’d already picked out and partially prepared from a prior batch in which Valerie was being particularly photogeneric. I’ll get to the newer ones sooner or later.
Jay: No Birthdays
The next one is also the last of the year, on the 31st, unless I am pointed to any new ones in the interim. Thus I have to find something else to guarantee at least one post each of those days.
Speaking of which, I meant the prior post to be longer, but Valerie hopped up on my lap with a pen and piece of paper. Every letter I printed for her was an E, she happily informed me, something like:
Me: V.
Val: E!
Me, thinking I heard V: Yup, V! Cool. A.
Val: E!
Me: L.
Val: E!
And so forth, with an EIEIO or two thrown in, and the entire alphabet ultimately involved, before including the digits, a glass of water, a circle, a square, and a triangle on the page.
Then I sent her to the kitchen and followed with fresh paper, which Sadie didn’t need because she was intent on her finger painting set that works only on special paper.
This is an icky day to go out, so I am probably going to save the imperative errands for tomorrow. I’ll try to post some pictures, maybe upload some for the relatives with broadband to download in bulk. Speaking of backup methods, it’s kind of lame to have a system where you periodically copy any new pictures to another computer when you go almost two months between doing that. There were 5 gigs of new stuff since November 7th. Eventually I need to back some of this stuff up onto DVDs, or even get a hard drive for the purpose periodically and store everything on it in the storage unit or at someone else’s house. I should also start purging the crap pictures. There are always some that are too dark, miscolored (orange is this camera’s favorite), bad shots of nothing in particular, or so out of focus as to be useless. By “some” I mean as many as half of some batches off the camera.
Yeah, pictures. I’ll do some stuff with pictures. Also need to finish the dishes in the kitchen at some point and here’s Valerie again handing me pens and paper and reciting “uppy, uppy...”

Jay: Pictures
Imagine, if you will, a post filled with pictures of the kids at Christmas and before, in this space, if only we didn’t have to go “do Christmas” today. That would have been a good thing to work in even if mainly relaxing and trying not to be sick.
