Jay: Rest In Peace, Brad Delp

Brad Delp of Boston (well, apparently this is the official site) has died unexpectedly at 55

He was, of course, a big reason why Boston was so astonishingly good.  They were yet another of the amazing set of “arrived on the scene or became really huge while I was in high school” bands.  Sadie loved Boston from the first time she heard them as a baby.  Valerie seems to react the same way to Heart, or at least to their song Alone, as performed by whoever.

Sad, shocking news.

Deb: AI: Results

How much does order matter, really?  Nobody got booted who wasn’t going to get booted pretty soon anyway.

And really, doesn’t losing Antonella make up for any number of other sins, anyway?

Deb: The Girls. *sigh*

Honestly, they bored me, dawg.  Very low on the YO factor all around.  Except for Melinda, who I now appreciate, even if I still think she’d better be careful.  That was the perfectest song for her.  And LaKisha because I love LaKisha, even though that was most definitely not a song choice I approve of.  And Gina because damn, but we need a rocker chick in the game.  And I think she’s hot.

Points to Simon for sticking up for Antonella while simultaneously telling her how bad she is.  Points to Jordin for doing Pat Benatar and having some freaking fun with it.  Sabrina and Stephanie both bored the hell out of me.  Which leaves Haley, right?  Bye-bye, Haley.  Nice forgetting you.

Deb: The Boys.  *sigh*

So Sharon reminded me that I’d meant to blog the boys again after last night’s round, but I’m still not sure I have a damned thing to say about ‘em.  Well, other than that it was nice of Blake and the Sligh Chris to show up.  Nobody else bothered.  Oh, and that it apparently was not impossible for me to hate “Jeremy” more than I did, because now that I’ve heard Sundance massacre it, I have indeed found a new level of loathing for the thing.  Oh, and that I’m still a little nauseated from whatever it was that Phil Stacey managed to do to that poor innocent song.

Who does that leave?  Chris Richardson?  Don’t get the attraction, but that’s just me.  The Carlton impersonator?  Dude, did anyone hear my primal scream when they announced that he’d be singing Stevie?  ‘Twas the no heard round the world.  Brandon?  I saw someone describe him as “this season’s camera fucker” and I haven’t been able to look at him while he’s singing since without totally cracking up.  He was actually better than he has been last night, I thought, but nothing to write blog about.  And Sanjaya.  Poor, sweet, awful Sanjaya.  When even Paula thinks you suck, you know it’s not going well.

Please let the girls be good again…

Jay: Clean Bill of Health

So far, anyway.

I had my annual physical this morning.  First one in I think it’s been five years.  Yeah, because I started blogging February 25, 2003 - completely forgot to post about my 4th blogiversary several days ago - and had been seeing this doctor since before then.  It’s kind of nice getting such a long time with the doctor.  I still need to lose weight, or more weight, as the case may be, but I appear to be in excellent health.  That’s barring anything that may turn up when in urine and blood tests.  The latter needs to be fasting, so I have to drop by another day after not having had coffee in the morning.  He suggested Sunday morning.  I’d not have guessed the lab was open then.

In the past my blood tests have always come back perfectly okay for sugar, borderline or better for cholesterol and high on the good stuff, and okay for whatever else, like kidney function.

My blood pressure today was 120/84, and earlier it was 128/86 for the nurse.  He said he’ll “never understand” my blood pressure.  Heh.

I am free of co-pays until July 5th.  Yay!  Except last I knew my plan didn’t cover physicals, like, at all, so I’ll presumably get hit up for that.  Oh well.

Jay: Dale and Sadie

This is Sadie and her friend Dale on Sunday, when we somehow managed to have nine adults and three kids for dinner without bursting the place at its seams.  You can see that Sadie wasn’t perfectly neat eating her piece of ice cream cake.

Jay: Another Vegas Wedding

Chris Muir is bringing back memories with his current storyline in which Zed and Sam are in Las Vegas to get married.  Looks like he might skip the part where you get lost trying to find the place where you get a marriage license, then get accosted out in front of the place by sales sharks* from the various Vegas wedding chapels, saying “pick me! pick me!”

* I see I called them saleswolves originally.  Perhaps I’ve watched too much Nemo since then.  Fish are friends, not food.  Ah, I called them sharks the second time.

Jay: Still Poor

We didn’t win Mega Millions, and now it’s up to an estimated $340 million.  I bought one when I filled the van the other day.  A buck or two for a number or two seems especially cheap next to $35 to fill the tank at $2.35 a gallon.  It went up so abruptly that I have sticker shock, even though I’m better than average at going with the flow as the price wanders up and down.  That, and it had been mostly downward so long it’s more startling.

Jay: Happy Birthday

To Tara Bamford, who was my best friend circa 4th to 6th grade, and who would presumably be 47 today.  I haven’t seen her since high school, but she helped fuel my enthusiasm for geology, at the same time making me cringe in retrospect at almost having become a full-fledged ecofreak.
