Jay: British English?

I keep trying to type “Outlook” and leaving off the k, resulting in “Outloo.”

Then I realized that must be British for outhouse…

Jay: Not Recommended

Having kind of a low grade stomach bug during the several days leading up to Thanksgiving (and losing ten pounds in as many days), not realizing:

1 - The degree to which the bug is still there.

2 - Just how much your stomach has shrunk with respect to fitting Thanksgiving dinner.

Very sad.

Deb: For my brother Michael.

Photographic proof, dude.

Note the identifying tatoo, even.  Heh.

Deb: Ideas?

Now that we have smokers upstairs, too, the parts of the apartment (namely the bedrooms) that were clear last year are--you guessed it!--full of smoke.  Which appears to be bothering Valerie, though Sadie’s still doing her indestructible girl routine.  So.

Anybody have any ideas how I can make a couple hundred grand, fast?  Because there is just no getting away from this sort of problem in multi-family housing ‘round here.  We figured we’d be good this winter because the bedrooms stayed clear, then we got new neighbors, and there’s just nothing much a body can do about that, you know?  And we’re years away from being able to buy, though now that the housing market has cooled we aren’t getting further away everyday anymore, which is nice.

N.B. Anybody who points out that we’re losers for moving into a building that allows smoking isn’t getting a Christmas card this year.  It’s my blog and I’ll vent if I want to.  YOU try finding a decent apartment around here for cheap and when you need it.  Anybody who points out that we’re losers for being over the age of 30 and totally incapable of affording a house might just get that Christmas card delivered in an anatomically improbable way.  Thanks.

Jay: Wow

My musically prodigal niece is in her first semester of college, at a state school.  She felt like she was under a microscope because her reputation preceded her, so the professors already knew who she was and expected her to be great.  Apparently she’s meeting their expectations.  At least.

Well, it seems word really travels.  She’s been approached by Juilliard about going there.  I don’t know the details; how much of a scholarship they’re offering, or if they’re just recruiting and she’d have to win the lottery, but it’s cool.  Even though she’ll probably stay where she is for at least a couple years.

Jay: Blah

We all have colds.  Us more than the kids, now, but they got worse first.  I just hate the scratchy throat and muzzy feeling.

Luckily things seem to be quiet at work and there’s nothing specific I’d promised for today.

Deb: Things I want that I have no money for.

Don’t you hate that?

So I’m trying to decide what exercise equipment it is that I’m pining for.  I absolutely have to get back to getting some movement...my blood pressure is shit, my weight loss is stalling, and besides all that I just plain flat feel too much better when I do *something* every day.  Life being life, though, I’m finding this hard to accomplish.  Taking a walk with the kids is nice, but Sadie always wants to go to the playground, and while she needs the exercise, too, I’m not always feeling social enough to brave the playground full of talkative mommies. (Did anybody see ER last night?  Our mommies are not like that--in fact, the ones I’ve met have been rather nice--but I found myself groaning in sympathy anyway.  Poor Abby.) Not to mention that winter is coming, and with it the shit weather.

So I’ve been fantasizing about what piece of equipment that I can’t afford that it is that I want.  Do I go for:

A. The elliptical that’s a fabulous workout, but strenuous enough that I might be too tempted to skip it?

B. The recumbent bike?  Have to work harder at getting a workout but it’s better for those ugh sorts of days, and the no impact is nice since I do walk some of the time...or

C. The iPod, to keep me company when I decide to just suck it up and go for a real walk without the children, even when it’s 12 degrees?

Now, I’ve got the money for none of this so it’s just speculation, but what do you think?  I’m leaning toward the bike, myself, as I’d not have to leave the house to use it.  Leaving the house might be better, though...the wonders of fresh air and all, and you don’t have to talk to anyone if you’re obviously plugged in and exercising, even if it is just a walk.  I’m thinking the elliptical would make a good “you’ve been a good girl and made use of the first thing for so long that you deserve to switch it up now” gift for myself in a year or two (well, if we have the room then, anyway).

I so need to win the lottery.
